Premier League Preview: Manchester City v Everton

Everton aim to continue their strong recent Premier League record against Manchester City when they visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors have won nine of the past 12 league meetings between the two, with City triumphant just twice during that time.

The Etihad has been a happy hunting ground for Everton of late too, with three wins and a draw from their last five visits to the ground.

They will make the journey this term in good spirits, with genuine hopes of adding to their recent run.

City, under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, have had a mixed start to the season so far, winning three, drawing one and losing two of their opening six league matches.

Their most recent league outing ended in a surprise 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa, while on Wednesd…

Genoa v Inter: Mancini not feeling the pressure

Inter head into their Serie A meeting with Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with the chance to take another step towards Champions League qualification, but Roberto Mancini is not feeling any pressure to secure it this season.

Inter gained ground on third place at the weekend, with their brilliant 2-0 victory over Napoli preceding Roma s 3-3 draw away at Atalanta.

Mauro Icardi and Marcelo Brozovic scored the goals as Mancini s side produced an excellent display against the Scudetto chasers, closing the gap to Roma to just four points.

The victory provides a timely confidence boost for Inter, with just five matches left for them to catch Luciano Spalletti s team in third place.

Although the Inter boss hopes they can do just that and have something t…

Boyata to stay at City following Pellegrini talks

Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata has been boosted by the faith that manager Manuel Pellegrini has shown in him.

The 22-year-old made his Premier League debut in 2009 for City and was tipped to achieve big things after showing promising signs early in his career.

But loan spells to Bolton and FC Twente – where he was not a first-team regular and was played out of position – did little for Boyata s development.

The Belgian admitted that he thought his chances at City were over, but new boss Pellegrini has assured him that he will get his chance this season.

An injury to Matija Nastasic and the departure of Kolo Toure have opened the door for Boyata, and he played well in the Audi Cup final against Bayern Munich last week.

And talks with Pellegrini …

Friendly Review: Inter and Atleti notch wins as Sandro strikes for Everton

Inter and Atletico Madrid geared up for 2017-18 by scoring three goals apiece in friendly wins over Villarreal and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively on Sunday.

It proved to be a mixed day for Premier League teams, with Everton and Bournemouth claiming 2-2 draws against sides with considerable European pedigree.

Newcastle United, meanwhile, saw off Hellas Verona but that victory nevertheless caused some concerns for manager Rafael Benitez.

Should he stay or should he go? / Image via bleacherreport.com

Atletico Madrid lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid 5-3 on penalties after the match at San Siro finished 1-1 after extra time thus concluding a promising season in utter disappointment.

Having failed to keep the pace in the closure of the Spanish La Liga title chase, los Rojiblancos ultimately failed to produce when it most mattered falling short to their local rivals for the second time in three seasons in the elite club competition, following the 4-1 extra-time defeat in 2014.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says he will start thinking about his future with the Spanish club following the Champions League loss and the summer ahead of us could very well bring an end to the tenure th…

´Extraordinary´ Goretzka going to the top – Ter Stegen

Marc Andre ter Stegen believes his Germany team-mate and rumoured Barcelona target Leon Goretzka is an extraordinary and remarkable midfielder who is destined for the top.

Goretzka has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Schalke from VFL Bochum in 2013, breaking into the Germany team as a result and starring at the Confederations Cup in Russia.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, scoring seven goals in his last 10 matches for club and country.

Goretzka s contract runs out at the end of the season and he will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.

Ter Stegen did not want to be drawn specifically on the links between Goretzka and Barca, but he is confident the midfielder will …

Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini – the latest Italy wall looking to deny Germany

It is almost 10 years to the day that Germany failed to break down the Berlin Wall .

That was the nickname given to Fabio Cannavaro following his influential role in Italy winning the 2006 World Cup, and, in particular, his thou shalt not pass display against the host nation in the semi-final.

The Azzurri captain was the defensive rock on which Marcello Lippi built his side.

Fast forward to Euro 2016 and Italy have a similar foundation, but this time it s not a one-man band; it s the Juventus trio of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci.

Forget the Berlin Wall, finding a way through this rearguard is akin to scaling the walls of Turin s iconic Fiat factory.

But that is the task facing Germany in Bordeaux on Saturday night …

AC Milan v Juventus: Spectacular Sheva lights up old foes´ memorable meetings

AC Milan welcome Juventus to San Siro on Saturday as Serie A s two most successful clubs prepare to write the latest chapter in their storied rivalry.

Juve are three points behind leaders Napoli in their chase for a seventh straight Scudetto, while Milan, despite a spending spree in the off-season following a Chinese takeover, are struggling for consistency under Vincenzo Montella.

The Rossoneri were the last side before Juve to lift the Serie A crown, but the seven-time European champions have failed to scale those heady heights in the intervening years.

Nine points adrift of the top four, a return to the Champions League already looks a faint prospect but perhaps a win over the Old Lady in front of a partisan crowd can kick-start their season.

Here, we…
